What are university scheduled classes? University scheduled classes are those listed as being offered in university sessions in the “Schedule of Classes” on SPIRE for the Fall and Spring terms. Graduate Students I'm a graduate student (either non-degree or in a degree program administered through Continuing & Professional Education). How do I register for university scheduled classes? Go to the Graduate School (in the Goodell building) and request an appointment to self-register for classes directly via SPIRE. You will be billed by the Bursar's Office for your university classes.
Undergraduate Students In addition to taking classes offered through Continuing & Professional Education (CPE), non-degree students and those in degree programs offered through CPE may register for university scheduled classes through Continuing & Professional Education. These classes are offered on a space-available basis. If you are enrolled in a degree program administered through Continuing & Professional Education (for example: UWW or BGS): You may take any university scheduled class as long as you meet the prerequisites and other eligibility requirements. To register call the Continuing & Professional Education Records and Registration Office at 413-545-3653 or go to 100 Venture Way, Suite 201, Hadley. Registration for university scheduled classes begins on the first day of the Continuing & Professional Education registration period. See the academic calendar for the exact dates. If you are not enrolled in a degree program: You may only take university scheduled classes that are listed as open for non-degree students, except by instructor permission.

- When can I register for these classes? Registration for university scheduled classes open to non-degree students begins one week before classes start. See the academic calendar for exact dates.
- What about classes that are not open to non-degree students (restricted classes)? Non-degree students must have instructor's permission to take restricted classes. Exception: Instructor permission is not required for MATH & STATISTICS if space is available.
- How do I register for restricted classes? Registration must be completed in person at the Continuing & Professional Education Records and Registration Office, 100 Venture Way, Suite 201, Hadley. You can not register for restricted classes until the first day of classes.
- Complete the Permission Form
. The form is also available at the CPE Records and Registration Office, 100 Venture Way, Suite 201, Hadley. - Go to the first class meeting or to the academic department. If there is room in the class, get permission to register and have the form signed (see instructions on the form).
- Bring the signed form to the Continuing & Professional Education Records and Registration Office, 100 Venture Way, Suite 201, Hadley.
I’m a UMass Amherst undergraduate. Can I enroll in university classes through Continuing & Professional Education? Students who are pursuing a UMass Amherst bachelor’s degree are expected to enroll in regularly scheduled university classes. In order to enroll in university classes through Continuing & Professional Education, you must file and be granted an appeal by the Undergraduate Registrar's office. If the appeal is granted, you will need to withdraw from the university and enroll as a non-degree student. Courses taken as a non-degree student can later be transferred back to your undergraduate degree record. Financial aid is generally not available to non-degree students.
