Pre-Registration Checklist

• Current students: Check SPIRE for any holds that are currently on your record and clear them before you register.
• Check class description to review class cost, prerequisites, text, instructor, and other information.
• If permission is required to take the class, or if you need credit overload permission, contact the appropriate individual.
• View add/drop and refund policies.

Payment Checklist

• If you’re using a waiver, send it to the Continuing & Professional Education Records and Registration Office before or with your registration request. Waivers are not retroactive.
• Check that your financial aid has been packaged on SPIRE.
• If you’re using a debit/credit card, contact your bank and make sure the maximum per day covers the cost of your class.
• Payment by educational loans should be processed through the Financial Aid Office.
• Payment by personal loan should be accompanied by a promissory note indicating that the loan will be paid to Continuing & Professional Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
• Registration with payment by a company should be accompanied by a purchase order or authorization to bill, including all billing information and the amount they intend to cover.

Post-Registration Checklist

• Verify your enrollment on SPIRE (after allowing time for processing). If any information is incorrect, contact Continuing & Professional Education Records and Registration Office.

Additional Information for New Students

• If you haven’t received emails to your home email account with your NetID, temporary password and SPIRE ID number within one week of submitting your registration, contact the Records and Registration Office at: 413-545-3653 or 800-922-8211 (toll free) or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
• Activate your UMail (University of Massachusetts Amherst e-mail) account as soon as you receive the information. All official UMass communications will be sent to your UMail account, not your home email account.
