Independent Study/Practicum

Independent study/practicum gives you the opportunity to earn undergraduate credit through an individually designed course of study.

Note: Not for program independent studies. Students registering for an MBA or University Without Walls (UWW) independent study or practicum should check fees for those particular classes. Click here for class listings.

To register for independent study:

Identify a UMass faculty sponsor with whom you wish to work. Note: Faculty usually reserve this option for students in their programs.
With your sponsor, fill out an independent study/practicum registration form , specifying the department, course number, credits, objectives, planned activities, and method of evaluation. For guidelines, contact the relevant academic department. Registration forms are also available at the Continuing & Professional Education Academic Programs Office, 100 Venture Way, Suite 201, Hadley.
Have your UMass faculty sponsor and department head sign your registration form.
Complete your registration.

Fee: $195 per undergraduate credit, plus $45 non-refundable registration fee
